Is MOTS-C Safe?

Is MOTS-C Safe?

Overview

MOTS-C is generally well-tolerated in the clinical context in which it is prescribed. A medical assessment is required before MOTS-C is prescribed.

Who Should Not Use MOTS-C

MOTS-C is not for use in:

  • Patients who have cancer or a history of cancer
  • Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding

Additional precautions for specific populations:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: strictly contraindicated for these populations due to a complete lack of clinical safety data regarding fetal development and maternal hormone stability.
  • Pediatric use: this product is not recommended for children or adolescents, as their natural sleep architecture and central nervous systems are still developing.

Drug Interactions

MOTS-C can be combined with Direct Meds' weight management suite. When used alongside GLP-1 medications (semaglutide and tirzepatide), the interaction is synergistic: GLP-1s work primarily through appetite suppression and slowing digestion, while MOTS-C works on fat oxidation and muscle glucose uptake. One of the biggest risks of GLP-1 therapy is muscle loss (sarcopenia), and MOTS-C helps protect muscle mass by keeping it metabolically active. Always review your full medication list with your provider before starting.

Medical Assessment

A medical assessment is required before MOTS-C is prescribed. Your provider will review your health history, current medications, and indication to confirm MOTS-C is appropriate for you.
