GLP-1 Medications and Weight Loss

1. People taking GLP-1 medications like semaglutide often experience significant weight loss when these medicines are combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Weight Loss Can Vary

1. Everyone’s pace is different. Some people lose weight more quickly at the beginning, while others see a slower, steadier change.
   
2. Health organizations typically consider about 1 to 2 pounds per week (around 4 to 8 pounds per month) a safe and sustainable rate of weight loss for most people. Many patients on GLP-1 medications will fall somewhere in or around that range, but some may lose less and some may lose more. 
   
3. Losing more than this in a month can occur, especially in people with a higher starting weight or early in treatment, but it is not typical for everyone and is not a guaranteed outcome.
   
4. With initial or starter doses, it is common to see little or no weight loss in the first couple of months. These doses allow your body to adjust and help reduce side effects while your dose is gradually increased.
   
5. After the titration period, many patients experience gradual, steady weight loss. Rapid dose increases just to chase faster weight loss can increase side effects and may make it harder to stay on the medication long term
